Yesterday's New York Times coverage of pilots of U.S. drones was infuriating, but typical, in centering on how the pilots focus on their mission, with no mention of the basic international illegality of targeted killing. Over the month of July, 21 people have joined our community of sustainers, many people have also made one-time contributions totaling over $1,000, and others have written statements of support or shared why they give. This is all greatly appreciated and critical at a time when telling the truth and refusing to go along with the status quo is needed more than ever. This July marks the 7 year anniversary of World Can’t Wait. We formed as many of you know to drive out the Bush Regime and when that didn’t happen and the Bush program remained in place we stuck to our principles, saying, ”crimes are crimes no matter who is president.” We will continue to do just that, boldly, with substance and creativity.

We do so with a shoestring budget, an all-volunteer “staff” and of course no corporate sponsors. We do this because the people of the world are counting on us to stop these crimes. Can we count on you to join us spreading the message: 'Humanity and the planet come first—Stop the crimes of this government?' You still have time to join as a sustainer! As a Christian and as a pastor, I give thanks for the public witness of World Can't Wait in calling people to a sense of self so much larger than political parties or national citizenship. World Can't Wait reminds us of the simple and undeniable fact that we are all members of one human family, and that what affects any of us affects all of us. When confronted by systems of violence, domination and oppression people of faith and people of conscience have a moral responsibility to resist violence and protect those least able to protect themselves. Our power to do so does not end with the casting of ballots, but includes forms of resistance that should be familiar to people of faith: testimony, lament, marches and other forms of direct action that transform our privately held hopes and prayers into mass movements for social change.
